Bacopa monnieri is a perennial herb with a creeping, mat-forming growth habit. It features succulent, oblong, and oppositely arranged leaves along its stems. The plant produces small, white, bell-shaped flowers, sometimes tinged with blue or pink. It's also known for its ability to root at the nodes and can be found in marshy and aquatic environments.
Growth rate
They grow slowly compared to other aquatic plants. They will reach an average height of 20 - 30 cm after two months in the tank.
Lighting
It needs moderate-high light. It is recommended to give this plant about 6-8 hours of light a day. If lighting is not intense enough, then the leaves on the lower parts of the stem will begin to rot.
Placement
Bacopa Monnieri, similar to most stems, will continuously grow vertically under optimum conditions making it a popular mid-to background plant. Regular trimming will keep Bacopa Monnieri short and compact. Once planted, it will continue to grow vertically even under the highest of light conditions.
Attachment
Insert it gently into fine gravel or nutrient-rich substrate.
Algae
Bacopa monnieri absorbs nutrients and can compete with algae for light, making it harder for algae to thrive.
